Action Programme on Essential Drugs (DAP)
Objectives of the programme: The objective of the Action Programme on
Essential Drugs is to support Member States in ensuring the regular supply
and rational use of a selected number of safe and effective drugs and
vaccines of acceptable quality at the lowest possible cost, toward the goal
of health for all.
The successful candidate will: promote essential drugs policies,
strategies and programmes primarily in francophone and lusophone countries
in the African region. Collect , analyse and interpret data and utilize
such data to the benefit of national essential drugs programmes. Apply
suitable techniques and methodologies for the efficient implementation,
monitoring and evaluation of policies and programmes. Collaborate with WHO
Regional offices, national authorities, international health agencies and
financial institutions, including the identification of and approaches to
solving problems in the functioning of national drug policy programmes.
Maintain extensive contacts with national, regional and funding agencies
supporting national drug policy development and essential drugs programmes.
Qualifications Required:
Education and Skills: University degree in pharmacy or medicine.
Postgraduate degree in public health or pharmacology. Extensive knowledge
of pharmaceutical and experience with drug policy issues in developing
countries. Proven ability to write clear reports and scientific
publications.
Experience: Extensive experience (at least 5 years) at the national level
in essential drugs programmes and at least 5 years' at the international
level in either another national essential drugs programme, or with a
regional or international organization.
Languages: Excellent knowledge of French with a working knowledge of
English.
Annual salary (net of tax): US$ 58 486 at single rate and US$ 62 983 with
primary dependants.
Post Adjustment: 59.% of the above figures. This percentage is to be
considered as indicative since variations may occur each month either
upwards or downwards due to currency exchange rate fluctuations or
inflation.
