UNICEF, the world's leading organization working for the rights of
children, seeks a Technical Officer for a temporary assignment until the
31st of March 2008 to assist with technical issues relating to the
Nutritional area. The successful candidate will work in the Essential
Medicines and Nutrition Unit, which is part of the HIV/AIDS and Health
Centre of UNICEF Supply Division, Copenhagen.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
A. Technical advice in relation to UNICEF procurement of nutrition
supplies:
· Prepare and maintain technical specifications for health and
nutrition products supplied by Supply Division.
· Technical adjudication of ITB nutritional supplies.
· Screen requests and sales orders for their technical compliance
including any regulatory and IP rights when appropriate.
· Market research on nutrition supplies. Assist with reviewing
documentation for database information on sources and prices for
nutrition products.
· Assist with drafting interagency or nutrition cluster reports and
documents.
· Prepare analyses of UNICEF supplies, background information,
recommendations for improving the suitability and range of products,
resulting in more appropriate supplies, better delivery and lower costs.
· Take active part in Supply Division’s team on health and nutritional commodities and support other Centres with technical advice as
appropriate.
· Provide support to UNICEF country offices in review of requirements
for supply, storage, and distribution of nutrition supplies,
B. Supply management advice in relation to distribution and use of
nutrition products:
· Assist with development and provision of data on new products.
· Draft and prepare technical guidance and supply directives relating
to supply and utilization of products in support of child health.
· Visit countries to work with government counterparts and partners to
develop supply monitoring programmes and work plans to ensure compliance
to specific assigned objectives.
· Review periodically the distribution chain and stock situation in
individual countries. Assist with forecasting of supplies and
identification of necessary action for supply adjustments.
· Participate with government counterparts and partners, in planning
and organizing supply management training programmes.

Minimum Qualifications and Experience:
Education:
Advanced university degree in Nutrition or Pharmacy, with background
experience on medicines or nutrition supplies.
Work Experience:
Minimum five years progressively responsible professional work
experience in institutional purchase of health and nutritional products,
project planning, management of country essential drugs and nutrition
programmes. Experience in an International organization, United Nations
or NGO desirable.
Skills / Competencies:
· Good interpersonal skills to ensure effective working relationships
with colleagues and external partners.
· Systematic and diligent
· Good computer skills
· Ability for teamwork within a multi-cultural environment.
· Able to work independently and problem solving oriented.
Languages:
Fluency in English and another official UN language. (French/Spanish)
