E-DRUG: Less problematic drug donations

E-DRUG: Less problematic drug donations (cont)
----------------------------------------------

I did not mean only the emergency health kits but also donated drugs that
are supplied from international suppliers of essential drugs as continuous
assistance (This was stated in my previous message).

In addition to the emergency kits, some donors supply SELECTED drugs (as
continuous assistance) from the above-mentioned suppliers. Donated drugs
from these sources seem to have many advantages comparing to THOSE
donations that are reportedly associated with many problems.

Some of the advantages are:
- They are essential drugs.
- The presentation, strength and formulation of most of them are similar to
those commonly used in the country.
- They comply with quality standards.
- They do not contain either drugs that have been returned by patients ,
or free samples.
- Their labels contain International Nonproprietary Name (INN) or generic
name, batch number, dosage form, strength, name of manufacturer, quantity
in the container, storage conditions and expiry date.
- They are presented in larger quantity units.
- They are accompanied by a detailed packing list.
- They are labeled in English that is the mostly understood foreign
language in Afghanistan.
- They are less expensive.

Finally I should add that this does not necessarily mean that all donated
drugs coming form other sources are problematic.

I hope this experience is considered by donors (especially donor
organisations).

Thank you

Medicine, Kabul, Afghanistan.
