Dear Dr. Chisale:
Permit me to introduce the Pharmacists and Continuing Education program of
Howard University School of Continuing Education. Each year in the fall, we
offer a twelve-week certificate program, ENRICHING THE SERVICE OF
PHARMACISTS IN HEALTH CARE DELIVERY, which consists of instruction in three
courses. In the first course, The Role of the Pharmacist in Health Care
Delivery, participants learn methods and techniques to enrich their
contributions to health care in their communities and nations. In the next,
A Therapeutic Update on Basic Medicines, participants are exposed to current
pharmacotherapy principles and practices using the most common drugs in
their country as a basis. During the last four weeks participants are in an
AIDS Information and Education for Pharmacy Personnel course. Here they
receive technical information, tools and tips which will help them
strengthen their role in the battle against HIV/AIDS.
Participants are provided with hands-on experiences and up-to-date
information which will enable them to (1) foster broader access to
integrated primary health care, (2) better manage private and public sector
enterprises, (3) examine and institute rational alternatives designed to
improve the use of pharmaceuticals, (4) train local personnel in new skills
to improve their performance.
The program is designed for pharmacy personnel and others who reside in
other countries, especially those countries in transition. It is open to
public and private sector pharmacists, scientists, administators and health
workers. It is intended for all health professionals and program
administrators who function in roles which support the medication dispensing
and use process at various policy, program and direct patient care levels.
Persons may take one or all three courses.
In the past, we have had pharmacy personnel from Tanzania, Eritrea,
Ethiopia, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Nigeria, Guinea, and Ghana in the program.
The program will be held this year from September 8 - November 28, 1997 at
our School in Silver Spring, Maryland just outside of Washington, DC.
We would appreciate your passing this information to those who may be
interested or to let me know how I can get this announcement to those who
may be interested.
