E-DRUG: Re: white list of suppliers

E-DRUG: white list of suppliers (cont)
--------------------------------------

Referring to Mayfield and Dzulkifli's suggestions. Can we set any criteria
for multinational companies who have different standards for different
countries. One such example is Abbots Labs. who have different vancomycin
injections for USA than that for Pakistan. Their product no doubt conforms
to USP specifications in each case, as far as vancomycin is concerned. But
color of the sterile powder, packing, label quality is variable. Should
such things also be discussed in this group?

[Yes, all issues related to essential drugs can be discussed in E-drug.
There are many possible reasons for product differences:
Multinational Drug Companies often make differently looking products for
different markets as they want to avoid parallel export/import to
other markets where they are selling the same product for a higher price.
Another reason could be the local climatic conditions requiring them to
change the formulation. The Pakistani Regulatory Authority could also
insist on specific labelling or may not have approved a change from an
old formulation. WB]
