E-drug: Research on teaching critical appraisal of drug promotion
---------------------------------------------

Healthy Skepticism is moving into teaching and research.

The Jan/Feb 2002 edition of Healthy Skepticism International News presents
the backgrounder for a proposal to investigate teaching critical appraisal
of promotion to change attitudes towards drug promotion and thus improve
prescribing.

Contents:
1) A brief overview of the Australian general practice context. (The trends
are similar in many other countries.)

2) Risk factors for suboptimal prescribing

3) The analogy of cardiovascular disease as an aid to thinking about those
risk factors and the types of research that are needed.

4) Early results of some teaching of critical appraisal of promotion.
