[e-drug] Single tablet for oral, vaginal and rectal use (cont'd)

E-drug: Single tablet for oral, vaginal and rectal use (cont'd)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------

I think there would be a general problem in trying to prepare a
formulation which can be used both for oral and rectal
administration unless the normal eccipient of suppositories can be
changed. This is glycerine, most unpalatable I suppose and I doubt
many people would want to swallow it. There are rectal solutions,
diazepam for instance, which in this formulation is used in status
epilecticus or febrile convulsions (useful preparation particularly in
children) but again this is a different preparation. Diazepam
suppositories were available (I am not sure if they still are) but their
use is not suitable in emergency situations as absorption is too
slow.
