Dipotassium chloracepate is a benzodiazepine, according to the Mexican 1994
edition of the PLM (equivalent to MIMS, Vidal, PDR, etc.). It is marketed
by Sanofi Winthrop in Mexico, under the name Tranxene, as capsules of
3.75mg. 7.5 mg, 15 mg and ampules of 20 and 25 mg.
Upon oral intake, it is totally metabolized to N-demthyl diazepam in the
stomach and rapidly absorbed. In the injectable solution, upon contact with
its "special" diluent, it is converted to its actibve metabolite and
rapidely absorbed from its injevction site. Maximum plasmatic concentration
is achieved immediately when given parenterally, and in one hour when given
orally. Elimination half-life is approximately 40 hours. It is metabolized
in the liver and excreted renally.
Stated contraindications include: patients with known allergy to
chloracepate, closed angle glaucoma, myasthenia gravis, shock,
serious depression.
Additional information published in the PLM (in Spanish) is available by
fax, but I suggest contacting Sanofi representatives if they are in Norway.
