JOB DESCRIPTION

QUALIFICATIONS
The Young Professionals Programme
WHO Headquarters offers opportunities for young professionals from Least Developed Countries (LDCs) to engage in WHO's work and build skills and competence in key public health areas. This is a structured programme which incorporates additional exposure and experience at country level and career support.

Young Professionals will be assigned to regular WHO positions and will be fully immersed in WHO's technical work. Young Professionals will benefit from career support, networking, mentoring and tailored learning opportunities throughout this period to support them in achieving their personal career goals. To enhance their knowledge and widen their professional network, the YPP may be posted in a different WHO office on short-term learning assignments.

Eligibility criteria
The following eligibility criteria in addition to the minimum requirements of the position will be used to shortlist candidates:
- To be no older than 35 years on 31 December of the year of application.
- To be a national of a country eligible for the Programme: List of Eligible Countries

- To hold a relevant university degree obtained in your home country or other eligible country.*

Objectives of the Programme
The Access to Medicines and Health Products Division (MHP) collaborates with Member States and other partners from the public and private sectors, academia and the civil society to improve access to essential medicines and other health products that are affordable and of assured quality.

The Intellectual Property and Management Team (IPM) focuses in priority on the following areas of work:
(1) the coordination and implementation of the Trilateral Collaboration with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and the World Trade Organization (WTO);
(2) the implementation of the GSPA-PHI recommendations; and
(3) the coordination and implementation of the WHO Covid-19 -Technology Access Pool (C-TAP).

The activities of the MHP/IPM Team aim at addressing the outcomes and targets of the 13th General Programme of Work, and of the Sustainable Development Goals, notably target 3.8 to achieve universal health coverage, including financial risk protection, access to quality essential health-care services and access to safe, effective, quality and affordable essential medicines and vaccines for all.

Organizational context
Under the direct supervision of the Head of Special Projects in the Access to Medicines and Health Products Division (MHP), the incumbent will contribute to and support technical and project management related work on access to medicines and health products. This will be done among others through the review and analysis of technical documents; the drafting of briefing notes and reports on access to medicines and health products; the drafting of material for advocacy and communication; the establishment and maintenance of tools and mechanisms to facilitate retrieval of information for WHO staff, consultants and experts. The incumbent will facilitate collaboration with other teams in the MHP Divisions, in other divisions and in WHO regional and country offices for work related to access to medicines and health products as well as on innovation.

Summary of Assigned Duties
Under the supervision of the Head of Special Projects in ADG/MHP's Office, the incumbent will carry out the following duties:

- Support WHO/MHP work on access to medicines and health products including work related to innovation; assist in the organization of meetings and workshops and support coordination of provision of joint technical assistance to countries;
- Collect and analyze information including through countries and stakeholders surveys; draft briefings and reports as well as communication and advocacy material on work related to access to medicines and health products including innovation;
- Support planning, organization and reporting for meetings related to work on access to and innovation of medicines and health products, including consultations with stakeholders such as Member States, private sector and civil society organizations;
- Facilitate collaboration with other teams in the MHP Divisions, in other divisions and in WHO regional and country offices for work related to access to medicines and health products and innovation
- Undertake other activities as assigned by supervisors.

Education Qualifications
ESSENTIAL
Advanced university degree in public health, medical or pharmaceutical studies or related fields. A university degree in a relevant subject must have been obtained in your home country or other eligible country.

DESIRABLE
Advanced university degree in international relations or law.

Experience
ESSENTIAL
At least two years of experience in the area of access to medicines and health products. Knowledge of project management. Experience in writing clear and concise reports and technical documents.

DESIRABLE
Experience in working at the country level and/or with countries. Experience in working with health-related public and private sectors, academia and/or civil society organizations.

Use of Language Skills
ESSENTIAL
Intermediate knowledge of English.

DESIRABLE
Expert knowledge of English. Expert knowledge of another WHO official language.
