E-DRUG: Workshop on TB Pharmaceutical Management: 29 October, Paris
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Management Sciences for Health's Rational Pharmaceutical Management
(RPM) Plus Program and WHO's Global TB Drug Facility (GDF) are
co-sponsoring a free of charge workshop on: Challenges and Solutions for
TB pharmaceutical management on 29 October, 2004, Paris France (in the
Palais des Congres, where the 35th IUATLD World Conference on Lung
Health is being held).
Workshop Description: Many national TB programs continue to encounter
problems in providing quality TB medicines to patients when they need
them. While lack of financial resources may be one constraint for
procuring all TB medicines needed, national programs experience a host
of other problems in pharmaceutical management as well. The problems
can be categorized in this way:
* What are the best product formulations to use? (appropriate
selection)
* What are the best sources for TB products? (good procurement
practices)
* How can I monitor quality of products received from suppliers?
(assuring quality)
* How can I maintain appropriate stock levels? (distribution and
inventory practices)
* How can I manage storerooms to prevent deterioration of products
(stock control)
The workshop will share common TB pharmaceutical management problems and
how some TB programs have solved them. Solutions presented during the
workshop will include functional instruments for procuring a regular
supply of quality TB pharmaceuticals and supplies, and for monitoring
their storage, distribution and use within the system.
Target audience: Managers of TB and essential medicines programs, drug
policy makers and TB partners looking for mechanisms to support TB
programs
Objectives:
* Present successes in TB pharmaceutical management in various
country programs
* Provide steps on how to obtain TB medicines through various
international mechanisms such as Global TB Drug Facility, Green Light
Committee and Global Fund to Fight AIDS, TB and Malaria
* Discuss how packaging of TB drugs can effect positive
outcomes
* Demonstrate how programs can monitor TB pharmaceutical
management elements of their programs to promote availability
Duration: One full day
Fee: None
