RFI: Interdisciplinary Programming Tools (2)
--------------------------------------------

Dear Geeta,

BASICS can be found at:

http://www.basics.org

and have been working here in Madagascar. Their successful approach to
child survival (IMCI with IEC, the latter through Counselling Cards and
Village Theatre particularly with women's groups including church
groups - all aimed at behaviour change) is being carried forward into a
new 4-year programme. This will look at both maternal/child health and
family planning, and the same approach could be adapted for environ-
mental education. The staff here are a bit swamped with launching the
new 4-year programme and are now employed by GSI but you could probably
get info from BASICS head office (mailto:infoctr@basics.org).

With books, a very broad and useful sweep of project/programme ap-
proaches that work at all scales (centring on health) is provided by
"Reaching Health for All" published by Oxford University Press. It's
distributed by TALC as well as usual book outlets.

Let me know if more detail on specific points would be helpful.

I have been trying to encourage increased contact between Madagascar
and Canada (with the French language being important in both) but don't
have any clear way forward with CIDA or Canadian NGOs: any thoughts?
