In the interests of public health, we legislate that manufacturers
add iodine to salt, vitamin D to milk, and that products meet health
guidelines. If experts agree that: impregnated bednets drop malaria
incidence; if pesticides are not carcinogenic or bad-smelling to us-
ers; and if their introduction won't generate pesticide-resistant
mosquitoes, perhaps it would be appropriate to legislate adding in-
secticides to bednets, at least those sold in highly malarious re-
gions?
