Family Health International (FHI) is dedicated to improving
lives, knowledge, and understanding worldwide through a highly
diversified program of research, education, and services in
HIV/AIDS prevention, care and treatment, reproductive health,
and infectious diseases. We are seeking qualified candidates for
the following positions:
Director, Evaluation, Surveillance and Research
To manage the evaluation, surveillance and research projects and
programs within the FHI Institute for HIV/AIDS, ensuring the ap-
propriate application of theory and best practice to the design
and implementation of all monitoring, evaluation, program re-
search and surveillance activities. Main responsibilities in-
clude: Oversees the development of strategies for the design and
implementation of program monitoring, evaluation, research and
surveillance. Provides technical expertise for the design of all
aspects of monitoring, evaluation, surveillance and research.
Ensures that results from research and published best practices
are incorporated into HIV/AIDS interventions and contributes
significantly to this literature. Liaises with partners, inter-
national organizations and donors such as WHO/UNAIDS, USAID, Co-
operative Agencies and other relevant agencies to share informa-
tion and avoid duplication in the implementation of evaluation,
research and surveillance initiatives. Provides technical guid-
ance and input for headquarters, regional offices and in-country
staff regarding program monitoring and evaluation, program re-
search and surveillance. Ph.D in Public Health, epidemiology, or
other social science or MD with public health degree or equiva-
lent experience in public health; and ten years professional
public health experience including at least five years special-
ized experience in HIV/AIDS program design, implementation,
monitoring, evaluation and research plus at least four years
management experience. Experience must reflect the knowledge,
skills and abilities listed above. Fluency in French or Spanish
is desirable.
Associate Director, Clinical and Community Care
Manages and provides technical leadership in clinical and commu-
nity care. Responsibilities include ensuring the quality of im-
plemented clinical and community care activities; acting as a
resource for the development of innovative and expanded re-
sponses in clinical and community care for HIV, in particular,
in areas such as HIV clinical management including preventive
therapies, TB (tuberculosis)/HIV relationships, care for mothers
and infants, the introduction of safe and effective use of ARVs
(antiretroviral treatments), and palliative care; providing
overall technical leadership in clinical and community care in
coordination with regional and country offices; supervising
staff in the Clinical and Community Care Unit; and making pres-
entations at professional meetings and conferences. MD plus Mas-
ter's degree in Public Health and seven years experience in the
field of clinical care to include clinical management, TB, ARVs,
including two years working in developing countries and two
years of management experience. Experience in pediatric care
would be an asset. Fluency in French, Russian or Spanish desir-
able.
Senior Technical Officer, Clinical Care
To provide technical support to implement high quality care and
support with primary focus on clinical management of HIV/AIDS,
which includes provision of Antiretroviral therapy (ART). Main
responsibilities include: provides technical leadership and
technical support related to clinical management of HIV/AIDS
strategies, approaches and implementation to FHI programs in re-
source-constrained countries and settings. Coordinates the de-
sign and implementation of components related to clinical man-
agement of HIV/AIDS, including the use of AntiRetro Viral treat-
ment in projects and programs. Provides technical assistance in
HIV/AIDS clinical management capacity building. Develops guide-
lines, tools and recommendations related to the implementation,
evaluation of clinical management and clinical monitoring of
HIV/AIDS in close collaboration with technical staff within and
outside FHI, etc. MD, PA or RN and preferably long term experi-
ence in clinical management and public health in developing
country settings. MPH is an asset. Experience must reflect the
knowledge, skills and abilities. Knowledge expertise in clinical
management of HIV/AIDS required. Fluency in French will be of
steed advantage, and Spanish is desirable.
Deputy Director/Technical, GHAIN Project (Nigeria)
In close coordination with the Director of Programs, works with
and supports the Chief of Party/GHAIN, and the relevant staff of
USAID/Nigeria. Provides technical expertise and leadership for
the design and implementation of HIV/AIDS prevention, care,
treatment and support programs. Ensures the high quality HIV
prevention, care and treatment interventions are implemented in
a timely manner. Represents the GHAIN Project and FHI at local
and international meetings. MD degree and ten years professional
health care experience including at least five years specialized
experience in HIV/AIDS care in developing country settings plus
at least four years management experience. Must be an experi-
enced ART clinician.
Senior Technical Officer, Surveillance, Research and Evaluation
(Vietnam)
To provide technical assistance in and ensure the quality of
surveillance, research, and evaluation in Vietnam and other
Asia/Pacific countries; Provide leadership in surveillance, re-
search, and evaluation by ensuring innovative and state-of-the-
art programming; Liaison and coordinate technical assistance in
the Asia/Pacific Region with other SRE staff in the FHI/APD Re-
gional office and also in the FHI Arlington office; and Perform
other duties as assigned. Doctoral degree (Ph.D. or DrPH) in
epidemiology or related field with extensive coursework in epi-
demiologic research; or equivalent years of education and ex-
perience and; 5 years experience in managing and conducting HIV
epidemiologic research or evaluating HIV prevention programs
utilizing quantitative research methodologies, including one
year experience interacting with USAID missions, plus documented
experience in writing research for publications. Experience must
reflect knowledge, skills, and abilities described above. Excel-
lent English language skills necessary.
