E-DRUG: Worldbank launches ARV procurement manual
------------------------------------------------
[World Bank has finally published its long awaited ARV procurement manual.
The Bank is giving prominence to procuring generics whenever possible, and
the chapter on intellectual property rights (including information how/when
to use compulsory licensing and/or parallel importation) is worth reading
for countries and companies that need an update on their rights under TRIPS.
Message as sent by World Bank to its staff. WB]
Dear Colleagues,
We're pleased to announce that the "Technical Guide for HIV/AIDS Medicines
and
Related Supplies: Contemporary Context and Procurement, February 2004," is
now
available on the Bank's external website by clicking on one of the links
below.
http://siteresources.worldbank.org/INTPROCUREMENT/Resources/Technical-Guide-
HIV-AIDS.pdf
or go to:
Procurement Policy and Services Web Site under - Policies and
Procedures -
listed under Sector Specific Instructions; or
Global HIV/AIDS home page.
The Technical Guide was developed to address the specific requirements and
unique features of the medicines and supplies that are part of the HIV/AIDS
Care
Package. The guidance offered complements the Technical Note - Procurement
of
Health Sector Goods, May 2000, Revised February 2001, March 2002 and March
2003.
Project teams working on HIV/AIDS projects are strongly encouraged to use
and
disseminate the recommendations of the Guide.
A robust dissemination strategy is under preparation with the first regional
workshop anticipated to take place in Africa in May 2004.
Thanks to all who have contributed to the preparation of the document!
